FINDING WHAT YOU NEED IN BITS AND PIECES
- Chances are, you will use Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids in a different way than we do at Capitol Hill Baptist Church.
- There is a CRAZY amount of curriculum because of the unique way in which we use it, stretching the curriculum to be used throughout Sunday School and our whole church service…. that’s about 3 hours of class time!
- Bits and Pieces allows you to use just what you need for your curriculum setting.
- And now, due to change in our teaching situations, we have actually created a much simpler, interactive story approach to the teaching this curriculum called Detective Dan’s Big Question Box. Super, super, super simple!
- There are so many options! And just like we’ve modified our use of the curriculum to fit our changing needs, you, no doubt will need to learn about the curriculum and decide what works best for you.
Here are 3 steps that may help you to choose well and build well, especially if you are new to the curriculum.
1. Learn what there is.
- Getting a grasp for all the Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids resources will help you choose what’s best for your situation. This slideshow will help you understand the resources available in Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids. This will help you learn what materials are available for each lesson, decide if you want to follow our lesson plan or if you want to do your own thing.

2. Think about your teaching situation and your teachers’ experience.
- You aren’t just looking for content you love, you are looking to take content you love and make a great fit for your kids, families, teachers, church, etc. The less experienced teachers you have or the less prep time, the simpler and more ready-to-go your materials can be the better (at least to start with). These slideshows will help you think through these ideas:

Reminder: People who want to use the curriculum pretty much as is may want to simply download whole units at once. Most find just what they want here at Bits and Pieces. Go to Full Unit Curriculum Downloads
3. Choose a Teaching Path: Detective Dan’s Big Question Box or Hide ‘n’ Seek Curriculum/Lesson Plan
Path A. Detective Dan’s Big Question Box:
- This resource takes care of all your teaching elements in the form of a story with Detective Dan and the Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids. (see sample here)
- There is very little you have to figure out, if you use this resource.
- Add in the discussion questions, crafts, games, etc. to fill out your teaching session with meaningful activities.
3. Choose a Teaching Path: Detective Dan’s Big Question Box or Hide ‘n’ Seek Curriculum/Lesson Plan
Path B: Hide ‘n’ Seek Kids Regular Curriculum/Lesson Plan:
- Use the lesson plan to guide your teaching session. You might like the “Follow the Stars” simple version of the lesson plan, notated on the lesson plan with stars next to the key lesson elements.
- Decide how you want to tell the story. You might just read it to the kids. Or, you might want to “bring in to life” with either the storyboard pictures or with the Simple Story Scenes. Simple Story Scenes are similar to the story from Detective Dan, and includes the key concept, Bible verse, and full Bible story told in pictures with text. (See sample here)
- Add in the discussion questions, crafts, games, etc. to fill out your teaching session with meaningful activities.
